About Bonnie J. Baker

I needed to take ownership of my last name.

so Bonnie J. Baker became bker MUSIC.”

About Bker

Bonnie J. Baker (bker) started piano lessons at age five and her love of music was born. Raised in a very strict environment, playing piano and reading books were her passions and where she spent most of her time. She studied creative writing and literature in college earning a Bachelor's degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

She moved to Nashville in 1992 to learn how to write songs.

Joining ASCAP in 1993 she became aware of the long road from paper to radio. Bker signed a publishing deal in 1997 with a small independent publishing company, McSpadden Smith Music Publishing.

“Bonnie is one of my favorite human beings. There’s always really valuable songwriting information with her. Invisible is a song Bonnie Baker, Katrina Elam, and I wrote and it did so much for my career. It put me on the stage at the Grammys.”

— Hunter Hayes

— Markos

I’m a non-traditional learner. You have a gift of putting both technical and abstract concepts in terms that are relatable for everyone. I didn’t think I’d be able to do some of these things I’m doing right now; I just wanted to learn how to write some basic songs and better understand what I’m doing. I’ve learned I have a knack for speaking in metaphor and that my improv approach and general disregard for boundary is ironically my strength to lead to structure.

Bonnie, hope we can do this again in the new year
