George Massenburg did an interview with Ben Folds and something he said caught my attention… “Find that center point as you work in the audio arts. Work from your head, your heart, your gut”. ~George Massenburg

If you don’t know who George Massenburg is, I encourage you to do research on his incredible career.

What does it mean to work from your head, your heart, your gut? Head=thinking. Heart=feeling. Gut=instinct. Understand how these places in your body inform HOW and WHAT you write.

Do you think about lyrics until you are exhausted? Do you feel every line without thinking? What does your instinct tell you about a lyric or a melody? All three of these are important.

Find YOUR center point as you grow as a songwriter. Know the different between these three center points. Understand them.
